'Mighty Civilization -Angkor Wat' is my first write up about this piece of wonder of the world- Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is the pride and main landmark in Cambodia even Cambodia official flag and currency bear Angkor Wat images. Angkor Wat was first a Hindu, later a Buddhist temple complex in Cambodia and it is the largest religious monument in the world. Located at Siem Reap, Cambodia , Angkor Wat was built by King Suryavarman II (1113 AD to 1150 AD) in the early 12th century in Yasodapura. Angkor Wat is a pride of the Khmer Empire from the 8th century to 14th century (before the Siamese invasion).The Khmer Empires built many majestic and grand temple complex dedicated to their God.The architecture portrayed Hindu God such as Vishnu and Shiva , the King a strong believer in Hindusm have an intention to build a heaven on earth , therefore the idea of building Angkor Wat has been supported by many of his palace's Brahmin (high priest). The whole structure and plan is based on the belief of the Hindu's heaven called Mount Meru or Sumeru (map of heaven). According to historian and archaeologist Angkor Wat took 30 years to finish and it completely built by sandstone. The ruins of Angkor Wat are located near forests and lake to the north of the Great Lake (Tonle Sap) and south of the Kulen Hills, near Siem Reap city.The surrounding is so beautiful and peaceful covered with tropical forest plus the serenity of the temple bas relief and crafted stone faces.
Angkor Wat now has been recognized as the most well preserved temple among all Angkorian temples and famous for magnificent construction and exquisite reliefs. In 1992 Angkor Wat has been recognized as World Cultural Heritage Site by The United Nation.

Each year Angkor Wat alone received approximately 2.5 million tourist from all over the world and today Angkor Wat is one of the most visited temple in the world.There's many old temples built by different Kings in different era near Angkor Wat such as Banteay Samré , Ta Prohm, Ta Keo, Prasat Preah Khan, Prasat Phnom Rung and Angkor Thom.
